SPORTS FIRST AIDSportMed

This eight-hour workshop serves as an introduction to injury prevention and on-site management of sports related injuries. Topics covered include recognition and control of potentially hazardous situations, injury assessment and the handling of life-threatening situations, management of common injuries, referral patterns and the development of a sports first-aid kit.

A certificate of completion will be issued. This course is approved for 3.0 NCCP PD Points and 7.0 PE/A2 CMTBC Continuing Education Credits.

ATHLETIC TAPING COURSE

This eight-hour course covers many of the taping techniques used in a sport setting through a combination of lecture and practical sessions. The course is designed as an introduction to taping. Safety considerations relating to taping as well as the theory of athletic taping will be covered. The taping techniques covered in the course include regional techniques for the ankle, foot, knee, elbow, wrist, thumb and finger. Procedures for injury prevention, minimizing the chance of further damage when injury occurs and for aiding the healing process are also discussed.

A certificate of completion will be issued. This course is approved for 3.0 NCCP PD Points and 7.0 PE/A2 CMTBC Continuing Education Credits.

CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT COURSE

Led by a certified sports practitioner, this workshop will provide an overview of current best-practices in concussion recognition & management. Participants will review injury mechanisms, on-field assessment techniques, the use of Sideline Concussion Tools (i.e. SCAT3), signs & symptoms, and return-to-play protocol. There will also be time set aside for a question & answer period.
