Bettauer has also been involved with numerous provincial and national level sport related projects including Own the Podium, the Ontario and BC Sport Ministries, the University of Toronto, 2010 Legacies Now and Tennis BC/Tennis Canada.
“We feel incredibly fortunate that PISE has secured the services of Robert Bettauer as its new CEO and we look forward to flourishing under Robert’s leadership,” said Jim Reed, PISE Board Chair. “Victoria has a great reputation of producing high performance athletes who have represented Canada with distinction on the world stage. Robert comes with a tremendous background in high performance sport and leadership roles, and will bring national and international experience, expertise and connections to assist PISE in the next phase which is to become the leading sport institute in Canada.”
For the past five years, Bettauer has been president of Vanchen Sports, a private sport consulting business that provides a range of services and expertise in the development and management of sport. Prior to operating Vanchen Sports, Bettauer played major sport development roles as the founding president and CEO of the Canadian Sport Centre Ontario and as the director of player development / sport development for Tennis Canada.
As a former professional athlete, national coach, and senior sports executive as well as through on-going high profile work in the media and on major sport system projects, Robert has established a highly experienced record of on-going success and achievement. His engagement with sport has focused on athlete and coach development including an emphasis on developing the structures and mechanisms required to provide support in critical areas such as training, competition, facilities and strategic management.
“It is with great excitement that I take on my new responsibilities with PISE,” said Bettauer. “Sport has been my life and I know from a deeply personal and professional perspective how powerful sport is in transforming individuals and communities for the better. For the past decade I have been part of the sport community strongly advocating for the establishment of national sport institutes in Canada as a means of achieving sport excellence for BC and Canada. PISE is the first fully operational sport institute in the country and I am most honoured to have the opportunity to help PISE and its stakeholders grow to national and international prominence as a leading, cutting edge sport institute.”
Active in both community and high performance sport development as a chartered professional coach, Bettauer is also the current chair of the Canadian Tennis Hall of Fame Committee and is a past member of the Canadian Olympic Committee board of directors.
